Message from Achen

Dear Horeb Family,

“There in the ground His body lay, light of the world by darkness slain.

Then bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again!

And as He stands in victory, Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me.

For I am His and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ.”

As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic and the war in Ukraine threatens to reshape our global future, we are once again approaching Easter.  Easter is the celebration of what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ accomplished for us by His death, burial, and resurrection.  Especially we are able to rejoice amidst the present troubles that His resurrection has ensured God’s victory over all evil forces and given us hope for a brighter future.  In a post-truth world, the empty cross and empty tomb assure us that Truth (John 14:6) cannot be buried, Love (1 John 4:9,16) cannot be contained, Life (John 1:4) cannot be extinguished.   As we go through the Passion Week, our worship and meditations will bring into focus and help us understand what God has done for us in Christ Jesus.  He has triumphed over sin and death and provided us new life leading to eternity.  Easter is the “triumph of resurrection over crucifixion, life over death, light over darkness, love over hatred, faith over fear.”  His resurrection also prompts us to continue His mission as His witnesses – with the love, forgiveness, humility and self-sacrifice revealed on the Cross – and as the bearers of the hope of His resurrection in a world riddled with pain and suffering.

God-willing, we look forward to be able to have this year’s Passion Week services and Easter Fest in-person.  Requesting each and everyone’s prayerful participation.  May our Easter celebrations fill us with renewed faith, hope and joy to courageously proclaim together, “Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” (1 Corinthians 15:57).

With prayerful regards,

Rev. Arun Samuel Varghese
